Jessica and David, 9th Sept 2019 Vasilias

How did the proposal happen?

Before getting engaged, we liked to have photos taken together in photo booths. When David knew he was going to propose, he wanted to find somewhere with a photobooth to capture the moment! We were celebrating the 2nd anniversary of our first date in Manchester when Dave suggested we went into the photobooth which was in the restaurant we were at! I had no idea that as soon as we sat down in the photobooth waiting for it to snap its 4 photos, Dave was going to propose! The best thing is we have the photobooth photo framed in our house and it captured the surprise and overwhelming feeling of love of that moment perfectly and we can look back at it forever!

How did you choose your venue?

We knew we wanted to get married abroad and wanted a venue that matched our style and personality. I think we first searched rustic wedding venues abroad and the Tie the Knot website was one of the first pages that came up! As soon as we clicked onto the Vasilias Nikoklis Inn page we fell in love! It was exactly what we were looking for, picturesque and unique! We didn't look any further and I messaged Vicki straight away to get it booked! We had the venue booked within 2 weeks of being engaged!

Where did you buy your dress from, what designer was it and was it your first choice?

I bought my dress from a local independent boutique. It was the first wedding dress shop I visited and I had some ideas of what I was looking for. I was certain I didn't want a strapless dress but when I was picking out some dresses to initially try, I saw a strapless dress I really liked. They suggested I tried it on even though I said I didn't want a strapless dress just to definitely rule it out, but as soon as I stepped into the dress I fell in love! I think it was the 5th dress I tried on and I knew straight away it was the one! The designer was Pronovias and the reason I fell in love with it was because when I saw myself in it I felt like a real bride! I am just so glad I tried it on now but it is true what they say that the dresses all look different once you try them on! I will forever love my wedding dress and always remember how amazing I felt in it.

Tell us about your wedding shoes, where did you get them, were they designer?

My wedding heels were Kurt Geiger and were a nude embellished heel. They weren't too big as I knew I wanted to be comfortable but I did take some flat sandals to change into!

What perfume did you choose to wear on the day?

I had a consultation at Jo Malone for my wedding perfume. Dave and I made a little day date of it and did it together, smelling all the different options of beautiful scents! It was so hard to decide and choose one, but in the end I went with Jasmine Sambac and Marigold intense perfume. Its a beautiful fresh scent which was perfect for the day. I love wearing it now as whenever I smell it all I think about is the wedding day!

Where did you buy the grooms suit from and how did you decide on the colour?

Dave knew he wanted something unique and always said he wanted a 3 piece suit even for an abroad wedding! The groomsmen suits were Jeff Banks and were blue checkered. He had it tailored to fit. Dave absolutely loved his suit and says it was exactly what he imagined himself getting married in!

How did you choose the bridesmaids dresses, colours & where did you get them from?

We hadn't decided on our colour scheme when looking for the bridesmaid dresses. I knew I wanted something pastel but didn't know which colour and was hoping when I found the bridesmaid dresses that would decide the colour scheme. I knew I wanted something quite light and floaty with the wedding being abroad, and just looked online at high street shops as opposed to traditional bridesmaid dresses. We went with pastel blue embellished chiffon dresses from Quiz which were perfect and the bridesmaids loved them!

Tell us about your wedding day decor, how did you choose what you had and what did you love most?

We wanted to go with rustic style decor, very simple and to compliment our venue. We used Cyprus Wedding Touches who were amazing! It is so easy to get carried away with wedding decor as it is all so pretty but we didn't want to go over the top and be too much! We made a list of things we liked and then made a short list from there of what we actually wanted. We loved all of our decor but particularly the hanging lights and flower globes above our table which looked pretty in the daytime but looked extra special lit up on the evening!

What entertainment did you book, why and did the guests enjoy it?

We had heard great reviews about the Cyprus dancers and they were not wrong! We kept it a surprise from our guests and they absolutely loved it! They got everyone involved and we have all never smiled and laughed so much!

Tell us about your cake, why that design and what flavour(s) did you choose?

We wanted just a simple cake that looked pretty and loved the naked cake styles! Vicki suggested Love Island Cakes her cake supplier. We had a two tier Classic Madeira cake, semi naked with a natural vanilla buttercream 'scrape' around the outside. It was delicious and looked perfect!

Who was your photographer, why did you book them and what did you think of your wedding photos?

With booking with Tie the Knot they suggested using Lee Squirrel Photography. We looked at Lees portfolio and knew he was the one to capture our wedding day! I am so glad we went with Lee as he and Bridget were both fantastic! Lee was really easy to talk to before the wedding and understood exactly the style of photos we wanted! On the day both Lee and Bridget were friendly and professional and made us feel comfortable! We can honestly say our photos turned out even better than we could have imagined. Lee and Bridget did an amazing job and we are forever grateful for our beautiful photos from our special day. It was captured perfectly and we especially loved our sunset photos!

What advice would you give a couple looking to have their wedding in Cyprus?

Get it booked! Cyprus is such a stunning island and has some beautiful venues! Anyone getting married in Cyprus would not regret it! Our main advice would be use a wedding planner with everything being abroad. Vicki at Tie the Knot made the whole process so easy and I can honestly say I didn't have one moment of stress the whole time of wedding planning and it should be most the enjoyable experience! We would also say that we had quite a small party of around 22 and it was a perfect number for an intimate wedding! You're sharing the biggest day of your life with those closest to you.

What one snippet of advice would you give a couple for their actual wedding day?

Be in the moment and enjoy every second. It is true when people say how quick the day goes, and before you know the day is over! Don't stress over the little things as ultimately they don't matter! The day is about getting married to the person you love and that's what is important! Also take time away as husband and wife. Its easy to get caught up speaking to your guests and we knew we wanted to make sure we spent time together. It was perfect when we went off for our sunset photoshoot as our guests enjoyed more food and drink, Dave and I were able to spend some quality time together just the two of us and really take in being married! It was one of our favorite times of the day!

Tell us about one other memorable moment from your wedding day?

We loved every minute of our wedding day and could go into every detail but one thing we do always talk about was the wedding bus we had booked for everyone to get back to their hotels. It was the perfect ending to a perfect day having everyone on the open top wedding bus laughing and talking about the day. Our day was perfect in every way and Dave and I feel so lucky to have the most amazing memories forever!
